Sleeping Bear

A supercell storm, pushing across lake Michigan towards Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, Michigan. This photograph was taken while on assignment for National Geographic Magazine, landing on the Dec 2020 cover as a gatefold, displaying the breath of the panoramic storm. It was an unexpected visual gift, a very organized storm in clear air, which allowed me to photograph it in beautiful detail. Within 10 minutes of taking this picture, the storm slammed into me, bringing with it hail and icy rain, a small price to pay to witness this unique moment.
